A photo and a digital passport serve different needs

Ways to keep your implant details accessible
OptionWhat it providesWhat to check
Photo of your cardA copy of the original layout and small print. Both sides are readable and it is the current card.
Online implant passportSeparate fields for implants, components and clinic contacts.Every entry matches the source; online access needs internet.
Optional sharing linkA selected read-only view for a family member or care team.Who has the link, what it shows and when it expires.

Check the information before saving

  1. Use a clear image of each side of your card or enter the information manually.
  2. Compare the manufacturer, model, serial number and date with the source.
  3. Keep each component separate and flag unclear fields.
  4. Ask your clinic about missing or conflicting details.

The card reader can make mistakes. Patient-confirmed information is not the same as clinical verification, and neither clears you for a scan or treatment.

What if my phone is locked or has no signal?

You need to sign in to open your own account. If you choose paid family or emergency sharing, someone with the active link or QR code can open the selected view without your account password. They still need internet access. Someone must find and scan the code; it does not automatically alert emergency services.

Keep your original identification card as another source of information. BHF advises people with pacemakers to carry their identity card.

Is this an Apple Wallet or Google Wallet pass?

Your online account and phone Wallet pass serve different purposes. Signing in with Google does not by itself add a Google Wallet pass. Use the Wallet option in your account. See what is included in each option before choosing access.

Questions you may have

Is a photo of my pacemaker card enough?

A readable, current photo can be a useful backup. Keep the original card and confirm missing details with your clinic. A photo or digital record cannot replace the checks required before MRI or other treatment.

Can my family open my implant passport without my password?

If you enable the optional paid sharing service, you can give them a read-only link to the information you choose. Anyone who obtains that link can open its selected view while it is active. You can revoke future access.
